Dave Isles - Biography

Dave was born and bred in Essendon and completed an honours degree in geophysics at Melbourne University in 1974.  From 1975 to 1979 he conducted postgraduate research and tutored in geophysics at Adelaide University under the guidance of Prof David Boyd.  He was awarded a PhD for his aeromagnetic and gravity study of the Broken Hill Block in 1983.

From 1980 to 1987 he was employed by BHP Minerals as a project geophysicist, supporting exploration programs for gold, base metals and diamonds Australia wide.

In 1987 he joined World Geoscience to form a consulting interpretation team, involved principally with large scale aeromagnetic surveys.  The main projects included surveys for gold in the Yilgarn Block, for base metals and gold in the Mt Isa Inlier and for copper in the Ophiolite Belt in the Sultanate of Oman.

In 1993 Dave joined a group of former colleagues and friends to participate in forming and managing exploration and mining companies.  The entities that were controlled by that group included Copperfield Gold, NewHampton Goldfields, Grenfell Resources, Mineral Deposits Ltd, Gravity Capital and Stellar Resources.  Gold mines at Kalgoorlie (Jubilee) in the Murchison (Big Bell) and in Senegal (Sabodala) were part of that enterprise along with the development of the Grande Cote zircon/ilmenite deposit, also in Senegal.  The Gravity Capital venture involved forming and expediting joint ventures founded on the application of the FALCON® gravity gradiometer.

With colleagues at World Geoscience, Dave developed training courses in aeromagnetic interpretation for geologists, and these hands-on workshops have been run continuously since 1991.

In 2009 Dave joined Southern Geoscience (SGC) as an associate exploration consultant and now provides project consulting services through SGC specialising the in interpretation of aeromagnetic, gravity and radiometric survey data.

Away from geophysics and exploration, Dave is a relaxed grandparent spending time with family and friends, and enjoying the SW Coastal environment at Redgate Vista.

He is a member of AIG, ASEG and SEG.
